The University of Ottawa is offering fellowship training in Foot and Ankle Surgery. This is a comprehensive, preceptor-based fellowship under the direction of three foot and ankle surgeons located at two sites – The Ottawa Civic Hospital and The Montfort Hospital.

This fellowship covers all aspects of a foot and ankle tertiary care referral center. Fellows will have exposure to complex pathologies with a case volume of 800+ cases per year. Fellows are expected to leave with a structured approach to ankle arthritis including both replacement and fusion, forefoot reconstruction, diabetic neuroarthropathy, sports medicine, flatfoot reconstruction, neurologic and cavus foot reconstruction, sports medicine pathologies, acute fracture care as well as malunion and post-traumatic reconstruction.

One research project per fellow is expected to be completed, presented at the annual Orthopaedic Research Day, and submitted for publication. There is ample opportunity for both clinical and biomechanical research in association with the University of Ottawa Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory. Fellows are expected to participate in medical student and resident teaching including bi-weekly foot and ankle teaching rounds.

The University of Ottawa is a dynamic academic center serving Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, and Nunavut. Fellows may have the opportunity to participate in a week-long clinical/surgical experience in Iqaluit. Fellows will be funded to attend the annual Canadian Foot and Ankle Society Meeting as well as a course of their choice.
